THE STRUCTURE
UTSS tournament run separate from one another, but are also linked by the season series.
Medals are awarded for top 3 placings at each tournament.
Points are also earned for results at each tournament.
Points are accumulated throughout the season to determine the individual season champions & Super Crown club championship.
THE SEASON
The season runs from October until June each year. Age is calculated as of June 30th to ensure competitors remain in the same age category.
The first tournament occurs in the fall with the River City Classic. Next up is the Victory Cup in March, and lastly the Community Challenge in May.
Season awards are presented
at the Community Challenge.
THE SCORING
Points earned at tournaments are added and tracked for each age division and the club standings.
Participation: 15 points
Gold Medal: 25 points
Silver Medal: 15 points
Bronze Medal: 10 points
All Other Placings: 5 points
Each Opponent (per div): 1 point
Physical participation must occur to be eligible for points.
THE STANDINGS
There are a total of 14 individual age divisions. 7 female and 7 male in the following categories:
Tyke (5-7 yrs), Peewee (8-9 yrs),
Youth (10-11 yrs), Cadet (12-14 yrs), Junior (15-17 yrs), Senior (18+ yrs), & Black Belt (all ages).
Individual points also contribute to a club's point standings. The highest athlete points from each category plus one wildcard from each gender.
ATHLETES
UTSS tournaments are open to taekwondo students of all ages, abilities, and ranks. Athletes with no experience are welcome and encouraged to register, as nearly a third of entrants are also entering their first event.
World Taekwondo rules apply to all patterns & sparring events.
Only WT recognized patterns are permitted, and WT scoring & equipment requirements apply for sparring.
COACHES
All coaches are required to request credentials prior to the registration deadline to have access to the competition area.
Sparring coaches must meet the criteria outlined (black belts +15 yrs or adults only) along with achieving the requirements set by Taekwondo Manitoba.
A coaches meeting is held by the referee chair shortly before the start of sparring at each tournament.
REFEREES
Without referees there would be no tournaments.
We are grateful for the loyal and committed group of individuals that invest their time and efforts to ensure safety and fairness at the tournaments.

VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are essential to the success of sporting events. Not only does getting involved offer an opportunity to contribute, but it also provides a setting to meet new people and learn from new experiences.
